I recently had the chance to meet Rita Tesolin for an Informational Industry Interview; Rita is a well-known jewelry designer in Toronto whom started her career in 2003 dealing in precious and semi-precious stone clusters. She has appeared in Flare Magazine’s “Hot 100” list and dubbed the name “The Costume Queen”. Tesolin’s work is known for its ability to catch bright light and intensity with lavishly bold pieces which gives the brand its admirable characteristics.
Rita started making jewelry as a hobby when she was teenager and continued her craft while working at Simpson’s. Tesolin’s sister was a fashion designer and she made jewelry from the scraps of leather from her collection which she used to make hair bows and earrings to match the designs. She was wearing one of the hand beaded bow-and-leather earrings while visiting the store Apropos. The owner was so impressed by Rita’s handmade jewelry that he offered her a consignment job working with him. After she left her job with Simpson’s, Rita began supplying jewelry to 22 stores across Canada.
Upon starting University, her father was not well and she decided to discontinue her business. Once Rita completed her law program, she started working and eventually began designing again.
Tesolin’s designs have adorned the covers of Elle Canada, Elle Quebec, Flare, Zinc, Wedlux, Chatelaine, Today’s Bride, Viva Magazine and many others. She constantly continues to produce work in her exclusive style through being trendy while maintaining a timeless quality.
Rita has also worked on the brain project called “Nojimoo” which means cure. It shows the two different sides of brain; one is analytic and other is creative.
