For the second article in the Alumni Spotlight Series (see our first Alumni Profile here) we are chatting with Alfie Nguyen, runway fashion photographer, who began his journey at Humber’s Fashion Management and Promotions postgraduate program to become a successful photographer.
Fashion Humber: Why did you choose to study Fashion Management and promotion at Humber?
Alfie Nguyen – I was very passionate about fashion, this program proved to be helpful to understand the fashion industry. Through this program I learnt to build my network and it provided me all the necessary resources to establish my business.
FH: How did your time in this program help to prepare for your career?
AN: This program helped me to understand the concept and give me an idea about what exactly wanted to do in the future. Although my main interest lies in fashion photography, in my leisure time I flex my creative muscles by working on Fashion illustrations.
FH: What was your most memorable work experience, you would like to share with all of us?
AN: The experience I would like to share is would be my very first time at Toronto men’s fashion week, from where I began my career. I was really nervous about it, I was the one with no experience as compared to other famous fashion photographers. Later I started loving it, growing my network with designers, models and photographers and leveraged my skills.
FH: Any advice to current fashion students who are about to enter the workforce?
AN: I would say just be confident and have a positive attitude. Never miss a chance to grow your network, because any of your connection can offer you more opportunities.
