Versace
The collection reflects the grunge culture that is slowly resurfacing in the fashion world. Donatella took grunge and made it chic. The models’ makeup was dark and their hair messy, but despite going for an effortless aesthetic, the look was paired with glamorous Versace accessories such as gold earrings and barrettes. The autumn/winter 2019 line featured black and leather paired with bright pops of colour layered over top. Some key pieces on the Versace runway were slip dresses, corsets, knit layers, and of course, the label’s iconic prints. The focus this year was on the Versace safety pin, which had been enlarged as decorative pieces all over the venue, to really set the grunge aesthetic and overall mood for the show.
Bottega Veneta
This is Daniel Lee’s first collection at Bottega Veneta after being under Tomas Maier’s reign for 17 years. Lee debuted the new and versatile line which features edgy and feminine looks. It is a minimalist collection but its unique silhouettes and play of pastel and muted colours as well as various fabrics, add harmony to the line. Some of the highlights included: Quilted jackets, mirrored shirt dresses, combat boots and skirts paired with leather jackets.
Prada
Fashion seems to be taking a darker turn with grunge returning to the spotlight. For Prada, however, the theme focused on movie genres for their FW 2019 line. The models were styled with bleached brows and Wednesday Adams braids while dresses featured Frankenstein prints. These grungy, “fear” inspired looks were paired with various loose striped sweaters, layers, lace slips and boots, with black and red being the main colours of choice. By contrast, other garments featured romantic notes of flare with flowers and shades of pink, red and blue. To complete this already very unique collection, Prada added sci-fi elements with looks that resembled the Matrix, consisting of long black coats and tiny black sunglasses.
Fendi
The FW2019 Fendi show will go down in history as it was the late Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection. The creative genius passed just a few days before the Fendi show, which took many by surprise. Lagerfeld was honored at the show, with his sketches at each seat in the venue. The collection clearly depicted Karl’s signature pieces such as blazers, tulle skirting, big bows, furs and tights. The line is composed of mostly neutral colours such as blacks, beige, greys and whites. The collection is bold and polished and truly reflects Karl and his immortal creativity and passion.
Moschino
Jeremy Scott never disappoints, and this year was no exception. The Moschino backdrop was inspired by the popular game show “The Price is Right”, showcasing new washers and dryers, refrigerators, cars and more. The fashion show focused on over-the-top glitz and glam with sequins, crystal embroideries, silver and gold gowns, and neon and jewel tone colours. Toothpaste bags and Trolls prints also made a statement on the runway, but the most memorable piece of the show was the TV-Dinner cape – with carrots, peas, mashed potatoes and steak all draped over an emerald green sequin mini dress.
