With 2018 in full swing and the weather slowly resembling Spring, it’s time to welcome some new, but yet not so new, makeup looks to our repertoire. It’s sometimes difficult to think that some trends that come out are actually wearable in our day-to-day lives. With the help of of my fellow content writer, Nazia Bihari, we tried to show-off a few of the season’s trends that can be done for an everyday look.
Fantasy Highlighter
Seen among the collection of blushes and eyeshadow are Rihanna’s Fenty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife. This was one of 2017’s most coveted highlighters when the brand launched and is still going to be one that will be widely used for this year. On Nazia, I instead used Wet n’ Wild’s Mega Glo Illuminating Palette in Catwalk Pink to match her more neutral tones.
Inner Corner Shimmer
Focusing on the inner corner of the eye to brighten a look has always been on trend; I personally don’t see this going away anytime soon. With that being said, instead of using an eyeshadow, I’ve opted for a highlighter found Tarte’s Swamp Queen Palette; a collaboration with YouTuber grav3yardgirl. The real trick is to use a powder (whether it be eyeshadow, highlighter, pencil).
Winged Liner: Anything Goes
Gone are the days where winged liner would end with long thin flicks. Say hello to bolder and thicker lines. Having your eyeliner too thick on one side won’t spell complete disaster now; all you need to do is balance each line and it will look intentional! Think of Twiggy in the 1960’s.
There you go!
Ultra Violet
If you don’t already know, Pantone’s Colour of the Year is Ultra Violet. Now, not everyone would want to be so bold as to pull of this vibrant colour but in Nazia’s look, you can see hints of lavender/purple in her eyeshadow and lipstick. To finish off her look, I used Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray which will keep her makeup in place all day.
Eyeshadow: Tarte Swamp Queen Palette, Uncommon
Lipstick: Urban Decay, Oblivion
Lip Liner: Essence, 05 Soft Berry
Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
All in all, I felt like that for my lack of professional makeup expertise, I was able to pull together a look for Nazia that embodies the above-mentioned trends. Though there are many more trends that can be discussed, I felt that these can be the most used for work, class, dates, casual shopping… but if you are a little more daring, please, keep at it! I would love to see what looks everyone can bring to the table.
