Did you know that the average Canadian throws away approximately 81 pounds of old clothes per year? In North America alone,15 million tonnes of used textile waste is generated every single year. A large amount of these discarded fabrics are ready to be upcycled. A tribe of sustainable clothing brands have started using this process of upcycling and making a difference. Let’s explore some of the denim brands currently making waves in the sustainable fashion industry.
RE/DONE
RE/DONE is a company that reworks old vintage denim into modern pieces with new fits. Every single RE/DONE product is manufactured using discarded denim fabric, reconstructed into a fresh denim piece. In 2015, Levi’s partnered with RE/DONE and now the RE/DONE Levi’s denim collaboration line is being manufactured in Los Angeles. The denim is manufactured using water conserving methods and no harmful chemicals.
