New York Fashion Week Highlights

As New York Fashion Week comes to a close, it is time to reflect on the upcoming themes and trends for Fall 2019. Let’s dive in!

We can see overarching similarities in many of the designers’ collections for the F/W 2019-2020 seasons. One of the prominent themes reflected a romantic feminine flare. The use of flowing fabrics, modest silhouettes, feathers and florals are comparable to a traditional Victorian garment. Marc Jacobs, Brock Collection, Lela Rose, Zimmermann, Michael Kors, and Christian Siriano were among the designers to incorporate these elements. Two designers that displayed an even more creative interpretation included Carolina Herrera and Anna Sui. Their designs modified the essence of romanticism with the use of modern silhouettes and bright colours.

The runways at NYFW were flooded with colorful examples of gorgeous minimalistic designs. The Row showed a wide array of neutral and muted tones while Sally LaPointe incorporated lots of leather and rich tones. Tom Ford’s recent designs were true to his brand, as he presented a collection filled with refined, excellently tailored garments. Ford created elegant suits, offering classic, timeless looks that were highlighted by his luxurious colour schemes throughout the show.
