Rebecca Balenovich – “Girls Only” by The Peace Collective
Last month, the Toronto based brand The Peace Collective released their very first collection centered around women, and women alone. Inspired by “strong, independent women of Canada”, this collection of t-shirts, crewnecks and beanies perfectly resembles exactly this. Its overtly feminine colour scheme juxtaposed with an edgy mouth logo sporting a “Canadian Babe” lip tattoo surely brings the idea of fierce, local girls to the forefront of this campaign. With comfy yet cool pieces made for women across the country, the “Girls Only” collection is without a doubt something every Canadian trendsetter needs in her closet this upcoming season.
Yan Yu – Boyfriend Striped Shirt
Sport the latest and greatest runway trends by wearing a striped shirt this spring. No matter whether your style is Parisian chic, or east coast preppy, the boyfriend striped shirt is so versatile that you can rock your style at will. Personally, I like matching mine with distressed blue jeans and ankle booties to create a fresh and simple look.
Meaghan Dorion – Drake’s More Life
Released last week on Spotify and Apple Music, everyone and their mother is talking about Drake’s newest album, which is actually not an album at all, but a “playlist”, meaning that it doesn’t really follow a theme, but offers us 22 diverse tracks for your listening pleasure. The single “Fake Love” has been bumping in headphones and at clubs since November and is still one of my faves from More Life, although after a few listens, there are some other hidden gems that have stood out for me.
The features on this album are A1, and Drake takes the backseat in order to let other artists shine on tracks like “4422”, where Sampha’s velvety smooth voice makes me feel all the feels, and “Get it Together” with soulful newcomer Jorja Smith from the UK (watch out for her!). Speaking of the UK, Drake has been repping UK grime artists for a while now, and gives Skepta the stage on “Skepta’s interlude”, in addition to two hard hitting tracks with new kid this side of the pond Giggs. Kanye even makes an appearance on the song “Glow”, which doesn’t have much depth, but has a catchy hook and gives us a real funky Earth Wind and Fire outro. And if you are a true Drake fan yearning for his old stuff check out the last track “Do Not Disturb”. If you don’t love this “playlist” right off the bat (I didn’t to be honest), give it a few more listens. It’s a grower, not a shower.
Nancy Maheshwari – Super Stripes
Bold, Bright, and brilliantly textured, spring’s stripes are jolts of energy, re-defining a confident look with exaggerated lines, metallic effects, graphic prints on new generation trenches and in sunshine yellow. Color and light the watchwords for the season. Who doesn’t love stripes? Fashion’s favorite print is timeless and totally wearable. This trend is definitely one of my favorites and a must for any wardrobe in 2017.
Louise Shih – Bell Sleeves
Sleeves and cuffs seem like an after-thought on top garments but they always have the ability to put the some soul into the art of fashion. From the Tang Suit back in olden days to the modern Kimono, it is not difficult to find exquisite designs on sleeves and this magic continues with today’s biggest sleeve trend which is the bell sleeve.
Bell sleeves are a necessity for 2017 S/S as they go well with any piece in your wardrobe, whether you are in a casual mood to pull on a pair of jeans or you want to invoke the beauty of a medieval princess. This glamorous statement sleeve will definitely be an essential element for you this spring and summer.
Trinette D’Souza – Fantasy Slides
The trend of bathroom slippers as streetwear formed a huge fashion statement in the 90s. Recently, this trend came in again and blew up mainly with its major launch in Rihanna’s PUMA Fenty Collection.
The uber comfortable footwear, better known as ‘Slides’ are flats with a laid back attitude that have been modernized with embellishments, floral designs, fur and sequins.
Luxury fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Prada and Miu Miu have made their step into this fast running trend that has been seen accepted widely by all. The famous were seen sporting this fantasy footwear trend and dang, do they look comfortable in them or what?!
One of our favourite looks that tops the chart has to be the Tory Burch pearl driven creation that has every touch of femininity to them. They were just so hard to keep our eyes off!
