New fashion has a tendency to reference its history, so at FASHION Humber we wanted to reflect on our past and all the events happening to celebrate our 50th Anniversary.
Humber College derived its name from the Humber River, a part of the history of city of Toronto. Over the years, the college has grown with a global representation with its ever-growing population of 4100 students from 100 countries today. Humber College is a citadel of knowledge and ideas, established in 1967, Humber College produces exceptional students, with over 200,000 alumni, leaving the college with a solid foundation, and changing the world by bolstering the growth of the business, industry and society in which they thrive.
To celebrate it’s 50 years, several events are planned. Starting off with Behind the Bricks which runs from January to May. This event involves the exploration of the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital to recover and rebuild the lost archive of the facility so that its previous occupants are remembered. The Support Staff Appreciation Week (SSAW) ran during the month of February and the participation in the annual Doors Open Toronto on the 27th and 28th May, 2017.

Events planned in the month of June includes the Humber College Gulf Classic, Campus Celebration, Showcase, Spring Convocation, Canada Day Celebration at Humber. In the month of July, is the World Music Festival and in August is the President’s Breakfast, the Humber Varsity Alumni Weekend and Etobicoke Lakeshore Culture Days comes up in September. The Colleges Ontario 50th Anniversary Bus at Humber is on the 16th of October, while the Fall Convocation is on the 2nd of November.

With its rich history of initiatives that has led to success of the college and its students, Humber is looking forward to the next 50 years. Students can get involved by attending events, donating to the 50th Anniversary scholarship fund or sponsoring an event in the 50th year Anniversary celebration. We can also share stories and Photos of memorable times at Humber…… So, FASHION Humber raise your glass and cheers to our college at 50 and at the same time to share our amazing launch.
