Elizabeth Ingold is a Toronto-based fashion and lifestyle blogger who I recently discovered. I particularly enjoy her personal style and the content that she produces on her social media platforms. I reached out to her and she was kind enough to answer some questions for me.
Are you originally from Toronto?
I’m from Kitchener-Waterloo. I moved to Toronto 6 years ago.
When did you start blogging and what motivated you to do so?
I started a blog near the end of 2016. I had originally moved to Toronto to pursue an acting career (that I had been working towards since I was ten years old). After a couple of years, I realised I had lost my passion for it. It was an incredibly confusing time since it was the only thing I had ever wanted to do. I was working as a server and I had no idea what I was supposed to do next.
I attempted to start a YouTube channel because I had been watching “beauty gurus” for years and loved the idea of it, but despite all of my experience behind the camera, it didn’t feel natural for me. I was already following quite a few fashion bloggers on Instagram and I began to get more “serious” about what I was posting and through that I began reading blogs. I’ve always liked writing and when I realised some girls were doing it full time, I became really excited about it. Shortly thereafter I started working an office job that I hated and it only made me want to blog more.
Where do you get the inspiration for your outfits?
Anywhere and everywhere. Instagram, blogs, Pinterest, my friends, store windows, women I see walking down the street… I remember very vividly when I was 12 years old, I saw a girl working at the mall who was wearing her belt buckle to the side, and I immediately went to school the next day wearing the same thing.
Do you have any favorite brands or stores?
I love everything I’ve ever seen at Club Monaco but it’s not a store that I can afford to shop at regularly. I love Aritzia and the Gap. I also really like thrifting – Common Sort on Bloor St. is my current go-to for second hand clothes. I’m also really trying to get into ethical/sustainable brands and be more conscious of the companies I’m supporting.
Are you now pursuing/fulfilling a career that is relevant to your love of fashion?
I currently work as an operations manager for a startup tech company – so not at all. However, with this job, I’m able to work from home and my boss is excellent, so I have a lot more freedom and flexibility to work on my blog. I have no idea what’s to come in regards to either position, but I’m extremely happy with where I am now.
Have you always had a passion for fashion?
Yes! I was always obsessed with dressing my Barbies and the clothes worn by the Disney Princesses. My mom and I would religiously watch What Not to Wear on TLC and in high school I had so many clothes I could go months without repeating an outfit. For some reason, I never thought of pursuing a job related to fashion, mostly because in high school they teach you almost nothing about career paths. I thought my only options were model or fashion designer and I wasn’t interested in either. Nowadays, I have a much smaller closet, and my blog so far has been less about fashion than I thought it would be, but I still absolutely love it.
What are your favorite things to do in the city?
My financé and I regularly go rock climbing at Basecamp and I love seeing shows at the Danforth Music Hall. I take spin classes at Rocket Cycle. I love that I will never run out of new places to explore – whether it’s a café, bar, restaurant, or even a street I haven’t walked down before.
