Alumni Interview: Nimisha Khanna

1.What interested you to take this program?

Fashion has always been a passion. I’ve always been interested to know what the latest trends are, what kind of fashion is conquering the streets, and had an inclination towards all things creative. All of that, and my background in finance (I did my undergrad in Banking & Insurance!) made this program best suited for me.

2.What did you most like learning about in Fashion Management and Promotions? (Favorite course)

My favorite courses were Visual Merchandising & Display, Trend Analysis, and Integrated Marketing Communications.
They were all hands-on and practical and gave me insight into the world of fashion. I feel like I learned skills that I could use in my career, especially with IMC!

3.What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?

Team presentations! They can be tough, especially when you have a teammate who does not contribute as much as the rest of the group or when your teammates have vastly different ideas of how to proceed. I’ve learned that communication is key; taking your team members opinions into consideration, valuing everyone’s opinions equally and discussing options thoroughly can help reach a consensus on how to design the presentation. One strategy to make sure that everyone contributes equally to the presentation is to give out tasks once the group has decided on what the presentation will look like. Having a plan always helps, in group presentations and in life in general!

4.Any unforgettable experience you would like to share?

No particular experience as such, but definitely all the experiences I’ve shared with my classmates have been truly memorable. We all formed great friendships, and what made it even better was our mutual interest in fashion which enabled us to bounce ideas off each other and create content. Going to Tatsu’s between classes for coffee and spinach bagels was the highlight of our day!

5.Any suggestions or recommendation for the students taking up this course at Humber?

Make the best use of the resources available to you and use them to your advantage whether it’s that WGSN subscription or talking to your professors about your interests and your future – they are really helpful!
